Welcome to the official web site of the 35th Professor Harry Messel International Science School (ISS), Genes to Galaxies, which ran 12-25 July 2009.
The ISS is a biennial two-week scholarship program rewarding high performing Year 11 and 12 students from Australia and other countries. Leading researchers from around the world lecture at each ISS and provide a chapter for the ISS book of lectures, with a copy provided to each scholar and made freely available to anyone as PDF download. The ISS, established in 1962 by Professor Harry Messel, is a program of the Science Foundation for Physics within the University of Sydney, Australia.
ISS2009 hosted 138 Year 11 and 12 students representing every state and territory of Australia and eight other countries, including; Canada, China, India, Japan, New Zealand, Thailand, UK and USA. Scholars were treated to lectures, tours, workshops and special events throughout their two-weeks.
I invite you to explore this web site to find audio and video podcasts of our lecturers, download chapters from the book, or view images of the experiences undertaken by the ISS scholars.
